Better Futures Forum


We invite you to join us for the Better Futures Forum happening on 17-19 August, 2021. The event is an initiative of Better Futures Australia, which aims to drive nationwide climate action. You can interact with and be inspired by climate champions across all corners of society and the economy, hear about actions they are taking, and learn how we can work together to create better futures for us all.

Leaders in energy, business, finance, health, agriculture, transport, local and state government, unions and First Nations communities will showcase their plans and achievements in reducing carbon emissions, and publicly launch their collective commitment to ambitious national climate action. Providing a unique platform for the robust exchange of ideas, the BFF will help catalyse the innovations and opportunities of the energy transformation, and is timed for maximum influence on the Australian position at the UN Climate Conference In November. 

When: Tue 17th Aug 2021, 9:00 am - Thu 19th Aug 2021, 8:00 pm AEST The fully virtual national Better Futures Forum will take place on 17-19 August, 2021. Three 90 minute sessions will be spread across each of the three days to accommodate participation around work commitments. The full experience, including interactive plenary sessions, lightning talks, workshops, exhibits and entertainment, will be accessible via an online platform. 

Who should attend: This inaugural Better Futures Forum will be fully virtual and everyone can register to participate. Who will speak: The virtual event brings together visionary leaders from every sector of the economy and society who are accelerating the transition to our better, healthier and more prosperous, zero emissions future. 

Better Futures Australia can today reveal several of the keynote speakers for the event, including the globally eminent Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations; NSW Energy Minister Matt Kean; ACTU president Michele O’Neil; CEO of HESTA superfund, Debby Blakey; CEO of Vulcan Energy, the world’s only zero carbon lithium miner Dr. Francis Wedin; and Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Sandy Verschoor. 

They will be joined by a diverse lineup of experts including senior leaders from businesses and organisations such Wesfarmers, Transurban, Telstra, ACOSS, the Australian Medical Association, the Indigenous Peoples Organisation, the National Farmers Federation/Farmers for Climate Action and many others at the cutting edge of climate action in their sectors. 

The Better Futures Forum agenda includes sessions ranging from Demonstrating economy-wide ambition, to Creating prosperous, climate-resilient cities & regions to Raising Ambition for a healthy, resilient Australia, to Corporate ambition to reduce Scope 3 emissions to Demonstrating Australia-wide contributions to the Paris Agreement, and much much more.
