Health professionals are among the most trusted occupations in the country, and the power of your voice is hugely important to bringing about change in climate policy. This workshop is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to use that voice to influence politicians and policymakers.

Climate change is already having significant impacts on people's health in Australia and around the world. Limiting warming to 1.5°C would significantly reduce the frequency and severity of climate change impacts compared to a 2°C or higher temperature rise. The latest research on limiting climate change tells us that warming can be held to 1.5°C, or close to it. However, it requires significant global action to be taken very quickly.

CAHA is pleased to promote the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) World Health Promotion Conference in Rotorua, New Zealand, in April 2019. Held every three years, the conference attracts several thousand delegates. The theme for the 2019 event is WAIORA: Promoting Planetary Health and Sustainable Development for All.

On September 21st 2018 we gathered at the Climate and Health Symposium in Melbourne to discuss the question: "Climate change is a health issue. The National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF) and the Climate and Health Alliance (CAHA) are working to develop a Human Health and Wellbeing Climate Adaptation Plan for Queensland (H-CAP).

The Lancet Countdown: Tracking Progress on Health and Climate Change provides an independent assess­ment of the health effects of climate change, the implementation of the Paris Agreement, and the health implications of these actions.

The Climate and Health Alliance scooped the awards at Public Health Association of Australia 2017, with four out of the seven awards going to people involved with CAHA. 

The Australian Labor Party has announced that, in government, it would develop a National Climate, Health, and Well-being Plan, based on the Strategy developed by the Climate and Health Alliance and Our Climate Our Health supporters.

In a world first initiative, a coalition of leading health experts and organisations, along with federal parliamentarians, has launched a Framework for a National Strategy on Climate, Health and Well-being for Australia. 

Al Gore recently mentioned the national #climatehealthstrategy being led by CAHA in his address to the Ecocity Summit held in Melbourne on July 13th 2017.

In the lead up to the launch of the Framework for a National Strategy on Climate, Health and Well-being for Australia, the Climate and Health Alliance have released the Final Consultation Report: National Consultation Regarding a National Strategy on Climate, Health and Well-being for Australia to detail the extensive consultation which informed the Framework’s development. 

The American Psychological Association, Climate for Health, and ecoAmerica highlight the mental health consequences of climate change in their March 2017 report, "Mental Health and Our Changing Climate: Impacts, Implications, and Guidance". 

CAHA has made a submission to the Review of Australia's Climate Change Policies which is being led by the Department of Environment and Energy. 

This Workshop provides an exciting opportunity for health professionals to learn strategic campaigning and organising skills to support their advocacy for action on climate change.
